PORT NECHES — A 20-year-old woman is in jail on $100,000 bail in connection with the stabbing and beating death of a man in Port Neches.

Port Neches police were called at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday to an assault that occurred at the Palms apartment complex, 877 Ridgewood Drive.

Officers were told one person was at Southeast Texas Medical Center and another may have died at the complex, Chief Cheri Griffith said.

Shortly after, police arrived at the apartment and found a man lying dead in the apartment’s living room.

Based on evidence found at the scene, police believe the man was stabbed and beaten with a baseball bat.

Employees and investigators spoke with witnesses and a woman at the hospital, police said.

After an initial investigation, officers arrested 20-year-old Mackenzie Renee Erie. She was jailed and charged with murder. Eary’s bond is set at $100,000, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The deceased man has been identified as 24-year-old Gregory Mandle Bobeno.

The investigation is ongoing.
