Code Enforcement Operation at Tewa Lodge 1 Dead, APD Says

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One person is dead following a shooting at the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) on Friday.

Police said the shooting happened in the area of ​​Central Avenue and Alvarado Dr. at Tewa Lodge while officers were conducting a “code enforcement” operation.

During the operation, law enforcement officers detained several people. One person did not reveal his identity and there was an “outrage”. At least one officer fired shots, according to APD. An adult man died; his identity has not been established at this time.

Authorities said the suspect “had a gun in his possession” at the time of the shooting.

“We will not tolerate the accumulation of drugs, guns or criminal activity, and we will continue to fight to clean up problem properties,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Unfortunately, today this proactive approach has turned violent and someone has lost their life. It is because of this potential for violence that we have placed APD in this area to ensure the safety of city employees and innocent people. “I am grateful for the work they do every day to stop criminal activity.”

A multi-agency task force is investigating the incident. No other details about the shooting were released.
