Woman allegedly used child to help her steal barista car and vacuum cleaner from Target

(Gray News) – A Florida woman is accused of using her child to shoplift at Target over the weekend.

According to a press release, Cape Coral police said they responded to a Target report of a theft that had occurred the previous day.

Target loss prevention employees told police that a woman, later identified as 23-year-old Elizabeth Novak, entered the store with a child under the age of 10.

The loss prevention program released video of Nowak loading a cart with merchandise before handing it to a child to leave the store, police said.

The stolen items were valued at $1,111, including a barista machine and a vacuum cleaner.

Detectives began investigating and sent Novak’s photo to other officers and detectives.

On Thursday, officers responded to complaints of a woman panhandling.

Officers said they recognized the woman as Novak.

The investigation revealed that Novak loaded the cart with merchandise and then separated from the child and pointed toward the exit doors to intentionally send the child out of the store with the stolen merchandise.

Soon after, Novak followed the child.

Novak was arrested and charged with grand theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
