According to Muzaffarpur Rural Superintendent of Police Vidya Sagar, the late Saurabh Kumar was a student of Government Turki High School located in Kurkhani block of the district.

A Class 11 student in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Saturday succumbed to injuries sustained at his school the day before when two groups of students clashed in the classroom, a police officer said.

According to Muzaffarpur Rural Superintendent of Police Vidya Sagar, the late Saurabh Kumar was a student of Government Turki High School located in Kurkhani block of the district.

“Saurabh and his friends encountered another group led by Om Prakash and Prahlad. A video of the fight appeared on social networks. Saurabh was hit on the head with a bamboo stick. He was rushed to hospital where he breathed his last this morning,” the police officer said.

He said family members of students from both sides filed counter-complaints soon after the encounter and after the death, “a charge of murder will be added to the case filed against those who attacked Saurabh.”

Asked whether the deceased and the accused were minors, the SP said, “It is not clear as the students were from the senior class. However, we determine their age from school records.”

He said police were looking into all possible theories, including rumors that the conflict was over an affair.
