A couple died when an electric pole collapsed on them while they were working in a field. The family alleged negligence on the part of the electricity department, saying the pole was not properly buried in the soil.

A couple who moved from Pakistan to India 17 months ago tragically died when they were electrocuted in Sagana village in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. The couple was working in the field when an electric pole fell on the husband and he died from electric shock. Seeing that her husband was trapped in electrical wires, the wife rushed to save him, but was also electrocuted. Both died on the spot.

According to reports, the deceased couple, Fotaram Odh and Dudhli Devi, were Pakistani refugees who moved to India 17 months ago. The couple has five children. Their eldest son, 13, is still in Pakistan due to visa issues, while the other four children lived with the couple in India. The bodies have been deposited at the Jawahar Hospital mortuary in Jaisalmer, where a post-mortem is scheduled for Saturday.

Raichand, brother of the deceased, said that Fotaram was plowing the field on a tractor at the time of the accident. An electric pole standing in a field fell on a tractor and the wires attached to it electrocuted Fotaram. When he called for help, his wife Dudley Devi ran to save him. Unfortunately, she also hit live wires, killing them both instantly.

Raichand further stated that the electric pole was buried in the soil just two feet deep without proper foundation and cementation. He noted that as soon as a small amount of soil was displaced during plowing, the pillar collapsed.

The family of the deceased couple claims that the incident clearly shows the negligence of the electricity department. The family has demanded compensation from authorities and called for legal action against the employees involved.
